Obituary for Andrew Culver Gordon Andrew Culver Gordon
Army Veteran, Longtime Pastor Served Many Churches

Andrew Culver Gordon was born at Philadelphia, PA on April 6, 1911 to Robert and Margaret Gordon.

He was third of three brothers and preceded his sister in birth. He was named after the pastor of his familyŐs church, the Rev. Andrew Culver.

He died August 1, 2006 at the Blue Ridge Christian Home, Raphine, Virginia.

Rev. Gordon married Eleanor Evans on December 29, 1937 and they celebrated 67 anniversaries until her death in 2005.

They had three children: Robert Clarke, Margaret Elizabeth and Andrew Chase.

He graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia in 1929, Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL in 1933, and Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia, PA in 1936.

In 1949 he received a MasterŐs Degree in Church history from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA.

Ordained to the pastoral ministry in 1936, he served a three-church parish of Orthodox Presbyterian churches in South Dakota from 1936 to 1941.

He joined the U.S. Army as a Chaplain in 1941 and served 36 months in the Aleutian Islands in World War II. He spent another 16 years in the U.S. Army reserve gaining the rank of Lt. Col.

He pastored the Third Reformed Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, PA from 1946 to 1951.

He was moderator of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in North America, General Synod in 1949. He pastored Grace Presbyterian Church (UPCUSA) in Paterson and Wayne, NJ from 1952 to 1978. Rev. Gordon served as stated supply pastor of Whiting Reformed Fellowship from 1979 to 1992. He did some preaching and a lot of teaching Sunday School at Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church up to 2000.

Rev. Gordon was preceded in death by brothers Robert and Alexander and his sister, Margaret; his son, Andrew Chase Gordon in 2003 and his wife, Eleanor Evans Gordon in 2005. He is survived by a son, Rev. Robert Gordon of Lexington and a daughter, Margaret Gordon of Roxbury, CT. There are nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Ocean Grove Funeral Home on Monday, August 7 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Geoffrey Wilour officiating. Visitation was held at the Harrison Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2006.
