Obituary for Clyde Braxton Snyder Clyde Braxton Snyder
Vesuvius Resident Was Veteran Of D-Day +1

Clyde Braxton Snyder, 88, of Vesuvius, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 23, 2006.

He was born in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John Henry Snyder and Mary Painter Snyder.

He was retired from E. I. DuPont and was a World War II veteran of D-Day +1 at Omaha Beach and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Vesuvius Baptist Church where he received the Deacon Emeritus Award.

Besides his parents, Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis, John Jr., Amos, Glenn, Delmar and Hansford; sisters: Clara Slough, Blanches Weeks and Susie Groah.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Pat) Clements; a son, Gary and his wife, Lisa, of Kodak, TN; a daughter, Freda Pulley; and a brother, Joe Snyder; 3 grandchildren and one step grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Vesuvius Baptist Church with Rev. Judson Baldwin and Rev. Dan Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery, Steeles Tavern. Pallbearers will be the deacons of the Vesuvius Baptist Church, Jerry Pugh and Euley Phillips.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vesuvius Baptist Church or Emory United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
