Melvin Gordon Mayo, 62, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, September 24, 2006.

He was born in Glasgow, Virginia, a son of the late Stuart M. Mayo and Louise F. Pugh Mayo.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Clements Mayo; four children: Valerie M. Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; Pamela M. Winfree and Timothy T. Mayo, both of Kernersville, NC: and Mikel M. (Skippy) Mayo of Buena Vista; two sisters: Doris M. Stowers of Knoxville, TN and Shirley M. Cash of Buena Vista; three brothers: James C. Mayo and John W. Mayo, both of Buena Vista and Edward A. Mayo of Roanoke; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista, with Rev. Charles Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Tuesday, September 26, 2006 a the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista.
