'Proud American' Was Vietnam Veteran

Jackie Leslie Conner, Jr., 61, of Buena Vista, died December 14, 2006.

He was born September 24, 1945 in Lexington, a son of the late Jackie Leslie Conner, Sr. and Patsy Fix Conner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Tyree Conner and a brother, Roller Conner.

Mr. Conner was a member of the V.F.W. He was a proud American who served his country. He was a Vietnam veteran where he received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Combat infantryman badge, National defense service medal and Vietnam campaign medal.

He is survived by a daughter, Sonya Fox and husband, Frank, of Buena Vista; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Martin and friend, Danny Campbell of Amherst; two stepgrandsons, Dakoto and Caleb Martin; a stepgranddaughter, Tiffany Martin; five sisters: Bertie Higgins of Lexington, Ann Jackson of Pennsylvania, Betty Dell Britton of Brownsburg, Patsy J. Edens of Locust Grove, Va. and Mary Louise Plogger of Buena Vista; a brother, Bobby Conner of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Walter Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
