Charles Gilbert Norrington, 73, of Natural Bridge Station, Captain USN Retired, passed away at home January 3, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a graduate of Tufts University, class of 1955. His naval career spanned 28 years. Upon retirement, Chuck was very active in the Master Gardeners Association of Rockbridge County.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Caroline Winslow Dyer; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Gilbert, Jr. and Barbara Allen of Raleigh, NC, George Dyer and Krista Ann of Glen Allen, VA; five grandchildren, Eric Charles, Leslie Allen, George Dyer II, Brett William, and Colin Patrick.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 at St. Paul's Anglican Church with Rev. Thomas McHenry officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Glasgow Rescue Squad or to Rev. Thomas McHenry discretionary fund at St. Paul's Anglican Church.

The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2007 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
