John R. Harris, Sr., 87 of Lexington, died Saturday, January 6, 2007.

He was born August 6, 1919 in Lexington, a son of the late Abraham Harris and Blanche Merchant Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. Harris.

Mr. Harris is survived by two daughters, Selma B. Graham of Patchogue, NY and Rashida Shah of Hollywood, CA; four sons: Omowali Ali of Baltimore, MD; Charles Buford of Santa Ana, CA; Howard Buford of Charlotte, NC: and John R. Harris, Jr. of Raphine; a sister, Ruth Anthony of Ohio; eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Pastor Charles Buford and Rev. Mark Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
