Myrtle Jane Moore Clark passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, after a long fight with heart disease. She was at home in Natural Bridge, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86 years old.
Myrtle was born on a very cold day, January 19, 1939, in Lexington, and grew up in Rockbridge County along the creek in Buffalo Forge. She enjoyed her childhood with her brothers, sister and parents along the creek. She loved walking miles to church and school with her family. "Lots of fun times back in those days," Myrtle said.
Myrtle met her husband, Wesley Callison Clark, while walking to school at the age of six in 1945. He lived a couple of miles down the creek from her. Just a few days before her death, she told us she knew she would marry that boy someday. On October 5, 1963, when Myrtle was 24 and Wesley was 25, they married and became soulmates.
After Wesley passed, Myrtle lived with her daughter, Theresa and son-in-law, Bernie. She was surrounded by love and laughter.
Myrtle was preceded in death by husband, Wesley (1987); parents, Thomas and Hester Moore; brothers, Nathaniel Moore and Richard Moore; sister, Goldie Miller; mother-in-law, Emma Camden; brother-in-law, Carl Miller; and sisters-in-law, Betty Moore, Agnes Moore and Lou Ann Camden.
Myrtle is survived by her four children and their spouses: Wes Clark (Karen), Theresa Martin (Bernie), Lisa Harlin (Trevor), and Brenda Kerr (Tony); grandchildren, Megan Martin, Sam Clark (Colleen), Ashley Kerr (Tevin), Kellie Clark, Scottie Martin Jr., Aiden Harlin, Matthew Clark, Jackson Harlin, and Harper Harlin; and great-grandchildren, Madi Taylor, Kenzley Ramsey, Hudson Ramsey, Jaxxon Ramsey, and Lilly Taylor (Sage). She is also survived by brother, Lorian Moore (Ann) of Maryland; brothers-in-law, Gilmer Clark (Sheila) of Maryland, Thomas Camden (Carol) of Glasgow, and Johnny Camden (Kathy) of Natural Bridge; sister-in-law, Bonnie Cooper of Fredericksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the joy and love of her life. She was "NeNe" to them and showed them all what it means to be a fighter and a warrior - never giving up - a blue-eyed, beautiful superhero and role model.
Myrtle was a homemaker all her life and loved being able to raise her children at home. She enjoyed her two cups of black coffee every morning. When she was able to walk better, you could find her taking her time shopping in grocery and department stores. She got to see the ocean for the very first time at age 82 and had the best time, saying, "God created one beautiful world." She enjoyed cooking, reading, singing, going out to eat, and listening to classic country and bluegrass gospel music. She loved watching westerns, cooking shows, the news, and soap operas. She was proud to be a Hokies grandmother and loved wearing her Myrtle Beach and Hokies T-shirts. She loved her dogs and cats throughout her life, with two cats still living.
Myrtle's lively presence will be sorely missed. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of her vibrant energy, joyful love, and that smile that lit up a room.

We would like to thank all of Myrtle’s family and friends; her medical teams: Dr. Sayre, Dr. Todd, and their staff; 911 and the Natural Bridge and Glasgow Rescue Services; and all of the Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital staff for touching Mrs. Myrtle's heart and making it brighter.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, at Harrison Funeral Home by Dorsey Hostetter. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
