Obituary for Leo Samuel Carper Leo Samuel Carper
Covington Resident, U. S. Army Veteran and CSX Railroad Track Inspector, Dies At Age 77

Mr. Leo Samuel Carper, age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his residence.

He was the husband of Jacqueline Webb Carper.

Mr. Carper was born July 1, 1948 in Alleghany County, the son of the late James Frederick Carper and Mary Geraldine Fogus Carper.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany.

Leo was employed as a track inspector for the CSX Railroad for a number of years before his retirement.

Prior to his illness, Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, Mr. Carper is survived by his children, Jeffrey Paxton and wife, Crystal of Covington, Sam and Chevy Carper of Gloucester, VA, Scott Carper and Shannon of Covington; Lynette Huffman of Covington; son-in-law, Lonnie Montgomery; grandchildren, Bradley Paxton (Sierra), Sydney Fridley (Trevor), Joshua Sheppard (Samantha), Kassie Huffman, Kinlee Huffman, Madelyn Carper, Garrett Carper; River Carper and Berkley Carper; a brother, Charles Frederick Carper of Covington; a sister, Rosemary C. Davis of Richmond; a number of nieces and nephews including special niece and caretaker, Suzanne Carper.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carper was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Montgomery and a brother, James Walter Carper.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Carper has been cremated, the family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at chapel of Loving Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of ACG Hospice for their compassionate care and support that they gave to Leo and our family.
