Covington Resident, Marine Corps Veteran and Reynolds Metal Company Retiree, Dies At Age 91

Mr. Billy Jack Camden, age 91, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at LewisGale - Hospital, Alleghany, Low Moor.

Mr. Camden was born September 23, 1934 in Alleghany, Virginia, the son of the late Ashby Dorman Camden, Sr. and Josephine Holcomb Camden.

Billy Jack graduated from Dunlap High School, Class of 1953, where he lettered in all three sports; football, basketball and baseball.

He was also a Junior fireman for the U.S. Department of Forestry.

Billy Jack was a Navy Corpsman for two years and then was assigned to a Marine Corps Unit at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station on Iwakuni, Japan. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. Mr. Camden also served in the Virginia National Guard as Cpl. E4 in the medical field.

Billy Jack retired from employment with the Reynolds Metal Company of Hayward, California in 1994 and returned to his hometown of Covington.

In his spare time, he loved the great outdoors and enjoyed deer and bear hunting.

As a past member of the Covington Moose Lodge, he spent many hours mowing and grounds upkeep. Billy Jack loved country music and played the harmonica. He enjoyed time spent with Jaxson, helping him draw trucks and animals and sitting on the front porch with "little" Audrey and her friend, Cassidy while they played their games.

Mr. Camden is survived by a sister, Martha Camden Terry, with whom he made his home; his brother, Issac Paul Camden and wife, Twila of Meca, AZ; a niece, Elizabeth Jo Lamb (Wayne); two nephews, Harper "Andy" Terry and Carl "Tony" Terry (Amanda); his former wife, Audrey Camden; stepson, Dominick Ron Cook (Deneen) of Manteca, CA; his step granddaughters, Misty, Kayley, Heather and Holly. Other family survivors are grand niece, Kala Jo Campbell; grand nephews, Justin Campbell (Lauren); great grand nephew, Jaxson; and his great grand niece, "little" Audrey, his favorite bingo buddy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Camden was preceded in death by a brother, Ashby Dorman Camden, Jr.; a sister, Georgiana Camden Morgan; and a brother, Richard Watson Camden.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Shannon Cox officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
