Seventh Day Adventist Church Member Dies At AGe 83

Helen Virginia Fitzgerald, 83, of Lexington died Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at her home.

Born September 11, 1923 in Vesuvius, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Arby Fitzgerald.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Staunton.

She retired from Western State Hospital in the Food Service Department.

Mrs. Fitzgerald's husband, Sterling T. "Bunk" Fitzgerald and her son, Leon Wood, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Jarvis and Gladys Balser and her brother, Dennis Fitzgerald.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Waymon and Mary Wood, Carolyn and Linwood Belcher, Jean and Bill Banks, Ann and Richard Helms, all of Meadows of Dan; Lynn and Derrell Foster of Lynchburg; and Kenneth Fitzgerald of Lexington; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Southers of Lexington and a brother, Charles Fitzgerald and his wife, Betty of Buena Vista.

The funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2007, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with visitation following the service. A graveside service with Bill Banks officiating will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Oak Lawn Memory Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1000 N. Coalter St., Staunton, VA 24401. The Lomax Funeral Home, Buena Vista, is handling the arrangements.
