Obituary for Virginia D. Bennington Virginia D. Bennington
Buena Vista Native Dies At Age 94

Virginia D. Bennington, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 16, 2007.

She was born in Buena Vista on March 8, 1912 to Houston and Docia Davis.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lemuel S. Bennington, her sister, Hilda Hill, her sisters-in-law, Ginny Fielder, Josiephine Wingfield, Mary Torrence, and Irene Zink, who were as dear to her as sisters; and her brothers-in-law, Jimmy Fielder, Wally Torrence, Joe Wingfield, and Doug Hill, who lovingly treated Virginia like a sister.

She leaves many family members and friends to cherish her memories including two daughters, Kay Green and husband, Jimmy, and Jody Roberts and husband, Roger; her grandchildren, "the loves of her life," Karen Wimmer (Marc), Lem Green (Allison), Landon Green (Collet), Jeff Roberts, Jason Roberts, and Jinny Roberts; her great grandchildren, Kaylin, Davis, and William Wimmer and L.J. Green; her nieces, Irene Wilkerson and Judy Mueller; her nephews, Doug Hill, Tim Zink, and Bill Zink; and a brother-in-law, Dick Zink. Virginia was truly blessed to live beside Fannie Robinson for thirty-two years. She was not only "Mrs. B's" neighbor, but also a sister through friendship.

Virginia Bennington graduated from the Virginia Baptist School of Nursing in 1934. She was always proud of her nursing profession and enjoyed caring for others throughout her life. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church where she attended Maude Grainger Circle and the Neal Oliver Sunday School Class, making life-long friends in both. She visited new church members and shut-ins weekly, delivered Meals on Wheels, and helped prepare dinners for numerous church events.

One of her life's most cherished blessings was babysitting all of her grandchildren until school age. "Nana" was a loving grandmother, fun to be around, and a role model of strong faith and family love. She enthusiastically attended all of her grandchildren's sporting events including her grandsonsŐ football, basketball, and baseball games, some of which were on two different fields in one day. She cheered at every swim meet and supported her granddaughters at cheerleading events and recitals. She somehow found time to cook a Sunday "feast" for the family before going to Sunday school and church, and always baked each grandchild his or her favorite cake for their birthdays. Her front porch swing was always shared with grandchildren and great grandchildren while eating cookies and icy pops.

Virginia volunteered every day for eleven years from 1992 to 2003 in the Sandusky Elementary School library. She adored the entire Sandusky family who always made "Nana B." feel loved and special.

Every family member and friend will remember a wise but humorous Mom, Nana, or "Mrs. B." story. She was a role model for many, and will be lovingly remembered by all.
