Obituary for William Herman "Sonny" Johnson William Herman "Sonny" Johnson
Operated Excavating Business For 45 Years

William Herman "Sonny" Johnson, age 74, of Lexington, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born July 5, 1932 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late William Herman Johnson Sr. and Mabel Sophie Falls Johnson.

He was a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge and attended Faith Mountain Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson was owner and operator of Herman Johnson and Son Excavation for 45 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, patsy Pauline Johnson and great granddaughter, Brianna Marie Hall.

Surviving are his children: Doris ann Phillips and her husband, Wendell; Wilber Lee Johnson and wife, Elise, all of Lexington; Connie Allen Woodson of Maryland; Jerry Wendell Johnson of Stuarts Draft; and Daniel Otho Johnson and wife, Fran of Glasgow; two sisterrs: Mary Plogger and Marie Wilhelm, both of Lexington; three brothers: Will Robert Johnson abd Jackie Johnson, both of Lexington, and Raymond K. Johnson of Salem, Tennessee; grandchildren: Thomas McCauley Jr., Virginia Ashley Phillips, Dawn Eanes, Kenneth Lee Hall III, Nathan Tucker Woodson, Amanda Shawntell Woodson, Coty Grey William Johnson and Julie Marie Johnson; nine great grandchildren and his wife of 21 years, Beulah Cash Ramsey and close companion, Katherine King.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. William "Bud" Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the New Monmouth Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
