Obituary for Kenneth Neal Scott Kenneth Neal Scott
Physician Served With U.S. Navy For 23 Years

Kenneth Neal Scott, 65, of Lexington, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2007 at his home.

Born August 25, 1941 in Clifton Forge, he was a son of Glenden Armstrong Scott and the late Wade Neal Scott.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Janet; a son, John Neal; and a bother, Marvin Wade Scott of Farmville, VA.

Ken graduated from Hampden Sydney College in 1963 and from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1969.

In June, 1964, Ken was commissioned as an ensign and in his twenty-three years in the U.S. Navy, rose to the rank of Captain.

In those years, he interned at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Portsmouth; served aboard the U.S.S. John Marshall SSBN 611 (Gold); and completed a residency in Diagnostic Radiology and a Nuclear Medicine Fellowship at the National Naval Medicine Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

He served as the Chief of Radiology in Okinawa, Japan, Chief of Nuclear Medicine at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, where he retired as head of the Radiology Department.

From 1987 to 2001, he practiced medicine in Norfolk, Virginia.

Afterwards, he moved, full time, to the Scott homeplace in Collierstown, Virginia.

Even though his career took him all around the world, his heart never left Rockbridge County, where his parents grew up and he had spent sumers as a child. When he retired to the farm, he had more time to devote to what he loved most: his church, family and friends.

Ken spent the last years of his life at the farm as a physician, farmer, master gardener, beekeeper, teacher, hunter, Gideon, and as an active member and elder at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church.

He loved having people at the farm and enjoyed sharing the beauty, joy, and peace of the Scott homeplace.

Funeral services were held at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. Burial followed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to he Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Dr., Lexington, VA. 24450, Gideons International, P. O. Box 942, Lexington, Va. 24450 or the Rockbridge Area Hospice, 129 S. Randolph St., Lexington, VA. 24450.

Arrangements were handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Collierstown Presbyterian Church.
