VMI Civil Engineer Was Well-Known Regional Attorney

Harold "Hal" Kenneth St. Clair, beloved father and grandfather "Papa", passed away on February 12, 2007 at the UVA Medical Center.

He was 65 years old.

Hal is a 1963 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a B. S. in Civil Engineering. He is also a graduate of the Washington and Lee Law School, JD 1973.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1970.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1970.

Hal worked as an associate in Shad Solomon's office in Bath County from 1973-1976.

He had a private law practice from 1976 to the present date.

Hal was Commonwealth Attorney for Alleghany County from 1976 to 1983. He also served as County Attorney for Alleghany County from 1976 to 1987.

He was a substitute judge for the 25th Judicial District from 1986 to the present. He also served on the District Ethics Committee from 1977 to 1987.

Hal was a past member of the Clifton Forge Lion's Club, Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge #166, past Master of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge #166, Alleghany Chapter 24, Alleghany Commandery 23. He was a member of the Alleghany and Lexington Bar Associations, Virginia State Bar, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Alleghany Chapter of the American Red Cross.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Camper St. Clair of Lexington and four children: Pamela St. Clair-Correa and husband Alvaro Correa of Lexington; Jennifer Seckner and husband, Andrew Seckner of Clifton Forge; Angela Isbell and husband, Michael Isbell of Clifton Forge; and G. Jason St. Clair and wife, Chelsea St. Clair of Lynchburg.

He is the grandfather of Adriana St. Clair Correa, Veronica Correa, Elena Correa, Patrick Seckner, Clair Seckner, Adam Perdue, Alex Perdue and Amelie St. Clair.

Hal is the brother of Jonathan St. Clair and his wife, Mary St. Clair of Leesburg.

Hal was predeceased by Gilbert Lawrence St. Clair and Althea Cooke St. Clair and a bother, Gilbert Lawrence St. Clair, Jr.

He had an avid interest in philosophy and religion. He enjoyed travel, especially to the beach. He loved sports and often practiced soccer with his granddaughter, Veronica. He was an avid gardener, lover of nature, and was a Chinese brush painter.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alleghany Chapter of the American Red Cross and to the VMI scholarship fund or to the charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2007 at the R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal church with Rev. John Doug Sterrett III officiating. Burial will follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
