Garland "Mutt" Earl Burch, 77, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 in the University of Virginia Hospital.

He was born February 20, 1930 in Amherst County, a son of the late William Rufus Burch and Mamie Elizabeth Lawhorne Burch.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings: Lewis W. Burch, Sr., Odell Sorrells, Kenneth "Zip" Burch, and Clayton "Jack" Burch; and a grandson, Scott Arie Burch.

He was a member of the Calvery Brethren Church.

He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

He was associated with the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service for the past fourteen years.

He enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Elena Mason Burch; two sons: Robbie Lee Burch and Brian Kevin Sheltman; two daughters: Donna M. Sheltman and Judith Haviland; sisters and a brother: Gracie Allen, Virginia Laudermilk, Edna Coffey, and Elwood "Bo" Burch; grandchildren: Chris Burch, Elizabeth Renee Dunford, and Michael C. Cochran; and four great grandchildren: Ryan, Andrew and Kelsey Oler and Conner Jackson Dunford.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Bain and Rev. Rick Ramsey officiating. Interment followed in the Green Hill Cemetery with military rites. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Elena Burch, 47 Burch Hill Dr., Buena Vista, VA 24416 in lieu of flowers.

The family received friends from 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
