Obituary for Daniel Rucker Smith, Sr. Daniel Rucker Smith, Sr.
Marine Veteran Served In South Pacific During World War II

Daniel Rucker Smith, Sr., 86, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Golden Living Center-Shenandoah Valley Nursing Home.

He was born March 10, 1921 in Lexington, a son of the late Charles Albert Smith and Bessie Lee McGown Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Rucker (Danny) Smith, Jr.

He was a member of the Lauderdale Associate Reform Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Smith was a Marine and served in World War II in the South Pacific.

He started a business, Radio Hospital, in 1946, which he operated until his retirement in 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Sensabaugh Smith of Lexington; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and George M. Craft; one granddaughter, Lora Christine Craft, all of Lexington.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. James Graves officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
