Smith's Transfer Retiree Dies At Age 75

Howard Samuel (Sonny) Gilmore, Jr., 75, of Lexington, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2007.

He was born October 30, 1931 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Howard Samuel Gilmore, Sr. and Edna Dixon Gilmore.

Mr. Gilmore was a lifetime member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He served with the Virginia National Guard, was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Lexington Moose Lodge.

He was retired from Smith's Transfer.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 56 years, Agnes Kirby Gilmore; children: Jill Straub and husband, Wayne; Rolfe Samuel Gilmore and wife, Pat; Penny Holland and husband, Keith; grandchildren: Sommer Black and husband, Travis; Kristen Coleman; Dixon, Kirby and Chance Holland.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Carroll officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. M. M. Murray, 1831 Wesley Chapel Road, Lexington, Virginia.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
