Rockbridge Baths Resident Was Nearly 102

Roxie Galela Reid Talbott, of 1190 Walker's Creek Road, Rockbridge Baths, passed away June 12, 2007, seven days before her 102nd birthday at the Mayflower Assisted Living Facility in Lexington, Virginia.

She was born June 19, 1905, a daughter of the late Ira James and Bettie Rosen Reid.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Rodney Reid, Ressie Reid Snider, Ira Sterling Reid, husband, Forrest Waitman Talbott, Sr., and son, Forrest, Jr.

Roxie grew up in the farming community of Walker's Creek and attended Crawford and Rockbridge Baths schools as well as the Shenandoah Conservatory at Dayton, Virginia.

It was there that she met her husband, Forrest Talbott of Elkins, West Virginia.

She made a home for her family in Elkins, West Virginia, for many years and while in Elkins, was a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In 1950, she returned with her children to live in the family home at Rockbridge Baths, where she enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flowers, raising a variety of poultry and her surrounding family and friends.

She was a member of the Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

She is the late of her generation of a community of family and friends on Walker's Creek.

Roxie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Tom Anderson of Rockbridge Baths; her son, James Talbott of Lexington; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a number of loving friends and caregivers at the Mayflower.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bethesda Presbyterian Church (Pavement Fund); or the Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, Va. 24450.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church with Rev. Malcolm Brownlee and Rev. David Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins, West Virginia.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
