VMI Heavy Equipment Operator Enjoyed The Outdoors

Donnie Bernard Sorrells, 53, of Lexington, died Saturday, July 7, 2007.

He was born on September 11, 1953 in Lexington, the son of Bernard Morrison Sorrells of Lexington and the late Josephine (Miley) Sorrells.

Donnie enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Blue Ridge Shooters Club.

He was also a member of the Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church.

Donnie was employed at the Virginia Military Institute as a heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Sorrells was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Marie S. Higgins.

In addition to his father, Mr. Sorrells is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lesley S. Sorrells; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca S. and Mark Chittum of Natural Bridge; a son, Philip Andrew Sorrells of Lexington; three grandchildren: Nicholas and Morgan Chittum and Serenity Sorrells and a sister, Anita S. Moore of Staunton.

Mr. Sorrells is also survived by a special Bassett hound, Molly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the Harrison Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Miles and the Rev. Ray Fitzgerald. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service or at the residence at other times.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
