Was Retired Air Force Captain

Melvin Leonard Vest, Jr. 69, of Lexington died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at his home.

He was born June 12, 1938 in Hopewell, Virginia, a son of the late Melvin Leonard Vest, Sr. and Clare Minter Vest.

He was a retired Air Force Captain of 28 years.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Barbara N. Vest; a daughter, Karen A. Vest, Indianapolis, IN; two step daughters: Linda N. Fitzgerald and Teresa N. Conner, Lexington; a step son, Curtis L. Noel, Jr., Lexington; a sister, Ann V. Salvage, Chester, Virginia; two nephews: Robert Roane and Joshua Roane, and Little David Roane; three great nieces: Sarah Roane, Rebecca Roane and Grace Roane, all of Chester, Virginia; a step granddaughter, Brooke Hall, Lexington; and two step grandsons: Lance Fitzgerald and Blake Funkhouser, Buena Vista.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Calvin Griffin officiating. Burial followed in the Collierstown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
