Obituary for Betty Lee Toms Hamric Betty Lee Toms Hamric
Secretary Worked At VMI For 34 Years

Betty Lee Toms Hamric, 74, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the Augusta Medical Center.

She was born November 18, 1932 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Claude McClellan Toms and Mary Elizabeth (Beckner) Toms and stepdaughter of the late Lyle Hope Walters.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Haric was an executive secretary at the VMI Preston Library and ended her career in Cadet Affairs before retiring in 1965 with 34 years of service.

She is survived by two sons: Richard Todd Hamric, Sr., Lexington and Brett A. Hamric, Buena Vista; two daughters: Tamara Hamric, Staunton and Tonia Hamric-Carpenter, Buena Vista; four grandchildren.

Her children were her life. Family was of utmost importance to her. Mrs. Hamric was a loyal and dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed genealogy research and working on her computer.

She loved auctions, music festivals, and being near the water, especially the beach. A brilliant conversationalist, Betty will be remembered for her intelligence, wisdom and quick wit, and great sense of humor. In commemoration, funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with pastors John Hamric and Will Hamric officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives after the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
