Obituary for Leonard Pope Hunt Leonard Pope Hunt
World War II Veteran; Natural Bridge Hotel Retiree

On Saturday morning, September 15, 2007, our loved one, Leonard Pope Hunt, peacefully closed his eyes to greet the Almighty.

Pope was born September 3, 1920 in Rockbridge County to the late Guy and Victoria Diamond Hunt.

In addition to his parents, Pope was preceded in death by two wives, Hattie Dixon Hunt and Wareteen Smith Hunt; one brother and one sister.

He served in the military as a Marine and was a World War II veteran. He retired with approximately 50 years of service from the Natural Bridge Hotel. He enjoyed gardening and giving much of the harvest to friends and family. Pope had a great love for family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Carl and wife Evelyn, of Clinton, MD, Leonard and Leon of Natural Bridge, Curtis, of Lexington, and Joyce Lee of Natural Bridge; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three half brothers; three sisters-in law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Natural Bridge, with Rev. Mark McCoy and Rev. Lorenzo Otley officiating. Burial will follow in the Diamond Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
