Obituary for Gladys Ruth Meador Lumbo Gladys Ruth Meador Lumbo
Avid Gardener, Was Lover Of Nature

Gladys Ruth Meador Lumbo, 88, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2007.

Gladys was born in Roanoke, Virginia on March 30, 1919.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Chapman of Chiang Mai, Thailand; her daughters: Betty Beckner Wilson of Roanoke; Lynda Chapman Bloch of Richmond; Jacqueline Lumbo Wolfe of North Palm Beach, Florida; and, the twinkle of her eye, her granddaughter, Lynda Elizabeth Ann (Lea) Wolfe, also of North Palm Beach, Florida.

Also surviving are her brothers: Cecil Meador of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Oscar Meador of Montvale; Ernest Meador of Roanoke; Ralph Meador of Roanoke; and her sisters: Ruby Meador of Roanoke; Edith Meador of Boone's Mill; Hazel Young of Springfield and Geraldine Glinski of Tarpon Springs, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anastacio Lumbo and her son, Richard Beckner.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lexington at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007. Graveside services will follow at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington.

Gladys attended Andrew Lewis High School and was graduated from the Jefferson School of Commerce.

Gladys was a kind and generous woman to all she met, with a warm heart and an iron will. She will be greatly mourned by her loving family and friends. An avid gardener, lover of nature, and faithful companion to her Airedale, Theodore, her gallant and sweet spirit shall remain an inspiration to all who knew her.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virgnia.
