Obituary for Edith Powell Webster Edith Powell Webster
Held Civil Service Career For More Than 40 Years

Edith Powell Webster, born August 31, 1926, took God's hand in Heaven on September 26, 2007 while in her home and at the side of her daughters and loved ones.

A devoted wife, Mrs. Webster was predeceased by her husband James Price Webster.

Her faith in God never wavered. She served God throughout her life as a member of Temple Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, where she raised her 5 children to know and trust Jesus Christ, Sweet Haven Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Manley Memorial Church in Lexington, and the church family of New Grace Church of God in Glasgow, VA, all of whom she loved and held so dearly.

Edith held a civil service career for more than 40 years in communications and retired from Sup Ships, Newport News in 1987. Edith loved people and never knew a stranger. She is described by others as such a sweet lady, such a wonderful friend.

She was a loving and caring Mother to Dianne Harris Cooper of Richmond, Jeanne Marlene Ralston of Portsmouth, Denise Adair Roberge of Richmond, and Nancy Leigh Branham of Roanoke. Edith was predeceased by her only son, William Theodore Roberge, who passed away on December 26, 2002.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Grace Johnson and Verna Boroody, and 2 brothers, Frederick Luther Powell and Linwood Earl Powell.

Mama loved the springtime and every year would call every child to tell them "the jonquils are in bloom." Remember Mama, your sister, your neighbor, your friend, and think of her when the comforting warm spring sun comes and you feel the gentle breeze touch your skin. Think of Mama when you see the sweet, precious jonquils in bloom.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Loving Funeral Home, Portsmouth, Virginia, by Pastor Nelson Fields, with burial at Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. and they suggest memorial contributions to New Grace Church of God in Glasgow, VA.
