Obituary for Salvatore Edward Bongiorno, Sr. Salvatore Edward Bongiorno, Sr.
Respected Lexington Crossing Guard Dies At Age 67

Salvatore Edward Bongiorno, Sr., died on November 3, 2007 at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington.

He was 67.

He was born in Queens, New York and lived in Roxbury Township before moving to Lexington, Virginia.

He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served from 1984-2000 and then worked as an advisor for the Morris County Veterans Affairs organization.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1962 during the Vietnam era and then became a Denville police officer. He then worked for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office in the Major Crime Squad unit until 1984.

He was also an undersheriff to John Fox and held the rank of Colonel from January 19, 1975 to January 20, 1981.

He was a member of the Musconetcong Masonic Lodge F & AM and of the Netcong American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of 33 years, and by his four children: Meghan Ollerenshaw of Lexington, VA; Sal Jr. of Bricktown; Kimberly Bongiorno-Howard of Mt. Arlington; and Michael Bongiorno of Los Angeles, CA.

He also leaves his father, John Bongiorno, Sr. of Succasunna, a brother, John, Jr. of Jobstown, NJ; sisters: Diana Stark of Ledgewood and Patricia Hoffman of Sussex; and four grandchildren.

His mother, Ruth Bongiorno, died last year.

Friends may visit at the Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, New Jersey (973-584-7264) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 frm 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Succasunna.
