Obituary for Walter Herman Heslep, Jr. Walter Herman Heslep, Jr.
Served With The 29th Infantry & 540th Corp Of Engineers In WWII

Walter Herman Heslep, Jr., 86, died Friday, December 7, 2007 at his home.

He was born May 28, 1921 at Fairfield to the late Herman and Forrest Heslep.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Figgers Heslep; a brother, Martin Heslep; and two sisters, Louise Sorrells and Elsie Snyder.

He was a member of Concord Church of the Brethren and served as a deacon, Trustee, and was a member of the finance board and the cemetery committee.

Mr. Heslep served with the 29th Infantry and 540th Corp of Engineers in World War II from 1942-1945. Prior to his retirement in 2003, he had owned and operated a plumbing and heating business and continued with a septic business.

He is survived by his second wife, Peggy Jennings Heslep; a son, Wayne Heslep, Lexington; a daughter, Evelyn Heslep, Lexington; two stepsons, Bobby Jennings and wife Kathy, Fairfield and Mike Jennings and wife Patricia, Fairfield; step-grandchildren, Lauren Jennings, Fairfield, John and Chelsea Jennings, Stuarts Draft, Hayley and Seth Jennings, Fairfield; two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Anna Jennings, Stuarts Draft.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Harrison Funeral Chapel, with Rick Labate and Rev. James Smals officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Concord Church Pavilion Fund in care of Carol Hipes, 5277 Lee-Jackson Hwy., Greenville, VA 24440 or Fairfield First Aid, 5885 N. Lee Hwy., Fairfield, VA 24435.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
