Obituary for Freddie Irvin Gilbert Freddie Irvin Gilbert
Former VEPCO Employee Was Korea War Veteran

Freddie Irvin Gilbert, 75, husband of Edith Romelda Gilbert, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2007.

H was born December 3, 1932 in Buena Vista, Virginia, son of the late Frank Lee Gilbert and Mamie Knick Gilbert. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Virginia Electric and Power Company for over 25 years.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the 11th Airborne Paratrooper Division.

Freddie was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband. Family was an important part of his life and he generously gave of himself to his family and others. His greatest joy was spending time with the grandchildren and he gave each a special pet name. The family is grateful for all of the wonderful years that God granted us in sharing in his life.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, family members left to cherish his memory include two daughters: Patricia Hartsook and her husband, George; Darlene Yeago and her husband, Scott; grandchildren: Matthew Hartsook and his wife, Heather; Jeremy Yeago and his wife, Michelle; Ryan Hartsook and his wife, Lisa; Ashley Brown and her husband, Eric; and Jordan Yeago; great grandchildren: Hannah, Alex, and Ethan Hartsook; one brother, Dickie Gilbert; two sisters: Emma Cash and her husband, Larry; Katie Austin, and a special nephew, Bobby Austin and his wife, Brenda and daughter, Lana.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Lomax Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held on Friday, December 21st.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center, Volunteer Services Department, 1970 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA 24153.

The Lomax Funeral Home, Buena Vista, Virginia, is handling the arrangements.
