Obituary for Mabel Clara Hughes Mabel Clara Hughes
Bedford Co. Native Worked With DMV For 31 Years

Mabel Clara Hughes, 90, of Lexington, a most gracious and appreciative lady, died Sunday, January 13, 2008 at the Mayflower Retirement Home.

She was born October 10, 1917 in Bedford County, the daughter of the late James Edward Hughes and Blanche Lillian Rice Hughes.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Turpin and Rebecca Rice; four brothers: Edward, Bill, Hughie and Earl Hughes.

She is survived by one sister, Barbara Fisher of Silver Springs, MD and a special nephew and wife, Robert and Juanita Rice.

Miss Hughes is formerly of Bedford County and Richmond and was retired from the Division of Motor Vehicles after 31 years of service.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richmond.

The family would like to extend its appreciation to Hospice and the staff at the Mayflower for their loving and never ending care of Mable.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
