Obituary for Norman R. Floyd Jr. Norman R. Floyd Jr.
Rockbridge Native Dies At 73 In Ohio

Norman R. Floyd Jr., 73, of 1917 Beaver Trail SE, Mineral Ridge, Ohio, passed away at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 at St. Joseph Health Center emergency room, Warren, Ohio.

Norman was born on Dec. 7, 1934, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, son of Norman R. and Bessie Southers Floyd Sr. He attended Praise Cathedral Church of God in Niles, Ohio.

He worked at Bernson Silk Mill for 19 years in Buena Vista, VA. After moving to Ohio, he worked at the Lordstown General Motors Plant, working there for 29 years until retirement.

Our family lost our rock today, but heaven gained an angel. Norm, a.k.a. "Storman Norman" was a man who genuinely lived for his family. All of his grandchildren considered him their #1 fan. He never missed a single function.

He had a love of music; and his dream was to perform at the Grand Old Opry. Everyone knew why the minute he picked up his guitar and that voice sang out. He was the light of all our family gatherings.

He was an avid bowler on several leagues, but "Time of Day" he never quite reached that perfect 300 game.

Some of his other favorite pastimes were sitting on the porch enjoying some good old southern cooking, eating watermelon, watching old movies, playing cards and fishing at the lake with his family. He was the Pittsburgh Steelers #1 diehard fan for over 40 years.

His faith in God and love for his family never faltered, which was always evident in his prayers, especially during his own time of illness.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Shirley Ann Smith, whom he married on July 26, 1955, fours sons, Dennis of Georgia; Greg (Chris) Floyd of Niles, Ohio; Donald "Mackey" (Adrianne) Floyd of Niles, Ohio; Barry Floyd of Mineral Ridge, Ohio, 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one on the way.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fletcher, Will, Curtis and Hunter "Uncle Cot" Floyd. So, until we see him again in heaven, "Beep, Beep." Family and friends may call Thursday, 28, 2008 from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, 2160 Midland Trail, Buena Vista, VA. Burial will be in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens, Lexington, VA.

The family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
