Obituary for Hortense Garner Craney Hortense Garner Craney
"Booboo" Was MBC Graduate, Local Teacher

Hortense Garner Craney, 74, of 323 Lewis St., Lexington, Virginia, passed away on February 28, 2008.

She was born September 29, 1933 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Willis A. Garner and Mary Carter Roy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Elliot.

Hortense, a graduate of Mary Baldwin College, was a teacher in the Lexington City School system as well as the Staunton School for the Deaf and blind, before retirement. Affectionately known as "Booboo," she touched many lives. Education was her platform, encouraging all she knew to be educated. Everyone who knew her loved her dearly.

She was a true representation of strength and courage. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Craney is survived by her daughters: Cheryl E. Craney, Lexington; Trenda Craney Moore and husband, Daryl, Upper Marlboro, MD; sons: Edward W. Craney, Jr.; Mark Q. Craney, Trent O. Craney, Lexington; daugther-in-law, Leah Craney, Lexington; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Ed Mays officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
