Rockingham Native "Never Met A Stranger"

Betty Gardner Fainter, 76, of Glasgow, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008 at her home.

She was born December 4, 1931 in Rockingham County, a daughter of the late Charles Walker and Annie Bowen Gardner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Betty never met a stranger and brightened the lives of her restaurant customers with her lively sense of humor.

She was an avid fan of the Virginia Cavaliers.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel A. Fainter; five children: Sharon Miller, Angie Ansbach, both of Glasgow; Jeff Fainter, Michelle McDaniel and husband, Richard, all of Natural Bridge; and Jonathan Fainter and wife, Sherri, Maurertown; a sister, Jean Baber, Mt. Holly, NC: a brother, Glenn Gardner, Buena Vista; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
