When the war ended he returned to his position at the Naval Torpedo Station. When the Torpedo Station closed he was sent to the Washington Navy Yard. When the Navy Yard closed during the Kennedy administration, he continued his Government service with the Central Intelligence Agency and later the Naval Mine and Engineering Station at Yorktown, VA.

He retired in 1971 after more than 33 years Federal employment.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Betty Sue Clarkson of Appomattox, his son, Rev. Dennis Gene Clarkson of Newport News, his granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Clarkson; daughter-in-law, Norah Clarkson both of Buena Vista, VA and his niece, Barbara Wheeler of Pennsylvania.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Timothy Dean Clarkson of Buena Vista, his sisters, Ajjalon Reynolds and Mildred Michael and his loving father-in-law and mother-in-law, John Aubrey and Lona Reynolds Gilliam of Pamplin.
