Obituary for Victoria Alexander Sharp Victoria Alexander Sharp
Agnes Scott College Graduate Had Life-Long Interest In Biology

Victoria Alexander Sharp, 82, of Lexington, died Friday, March 28, 2008.

She was born in Columbia, Missouri, the eldest child of the Rev. John M. Alexander, a Presbyterian minister, and his wife, Victoria Holladay Alexander, of Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

She graduated from Agnes Scott College with a major in biology and she retained a life-long interest in those aspects of biology related to the medical sciences.

She worked for several years as a Medical Technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Later, she worked as a Research Assistant in the Biochemistry Department of the Emory University Medical School.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Henry Sharp Jr.; a son, Henry K. Sharp of Charlottesville, VA; a daughter, Margaret L. Sharp of Crested Butte, CO; a sister, Caroline Alexander of Atlanta; a brother, John M. Alexander Jr. of Setauket, NY; and many beloved members of her extended family.

After college, she resided in Atlanta until 1983 when she and her husband moved to Lexington, Virginia.

In Atlanta, she was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, where she served regularly as a volunteer in the Central Baby Clinic, part of that time as Director. She also was an active member of the League of Women Voters.

In Lexington, she was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, and she volunteered for a number of years at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

She also enjoyed membership in the Ruth Anderson McCullock Branch of the APVA, the Ignorance Club and the Natural Bridge Garden Club.

She developed many close friendships throughout her full and active life. Although her latter years were shadowed by several serious illnesses and almost total deafness, she endured these with grace, courage and patience. Her continued joy in life was an inspiration to all who knew her.

There will be a memorial service at the Lexington Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2008. This will be followed at 4 p.m. by a reception at Sunnyside House on the Kendal at Lexington Campus.

Contributions may be made to the Kendal at Lexington Fellowship Fund, to the Rockbridge Area Hospice or to the donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
