Obituary for Mattie Martin Gilkeson Mattie Martin Gilkeson
Grace Presbyterian Church Member Was 4-H All Star

Mattie Martin Gilkeson, 88, of Troutville, formerly of Fairfield, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Carrington Place.

She was born January 21, 1920 in Moneta, a daughter of the late William Penn and Magdeline LaFoon Martin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Carlisle Gilkeson and a son, Donald Gilkeson.

She was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Fairhills Garden Club, and the Fairfield Home Demonstration Club.

She was an all star in 4-H and helped numerous widows and orphans.

Surviving are two sons: David O. Gilkeson and wife, Elizabeth, Troutville; and Thomas Carlisle Gilkeson and wife, Linda, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Price Martin, Bedford; a brother-in-law, Mr. Guy Gilkeson, Leesburg; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Fairfield Cemetery with Rev. Paul Carter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
