BV Native Was Businessman, Cattleman

Thomas Morrison Dickinson, 94, of Buena Vista, died at his Savernake farm home on Thursday, April 3, 2008.

He was born July 4, 1913 in Buena Vista, a son of the late John Harvey and Mary Jordan Dickinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eveyln Cole Dickinson; two brothers: Jordan and John and a sister, Blanche D. Dickinson.

He joined the Buena Vista Fire Department in 1938 and has been a life member, as well as served as president.

He was a former Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge and a lifelong member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where he was a youth leader of MYF for many years.

He was a businessman and cattleman.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Frances Burks and husband, Bill, Buena Vista; two sons: Thomas M. (Tommy) Dickinson, Jr. and wife, Joan, Winchester; and Robert C. Dickinson, Sr. and wife, Dawn, Buena Vista; grandchildren: Bob Burks and wife, Leola, Ben Burks and wife, Sandra, T. M. Dickinson, III and wife, Doesy, Jamie Dickinson and wife, Elizabeth, Robbie Dickinson and wife, Kara and Courtney Dickinson-Austin and husband, Frankie; great grandchildren: Jennifer, Garret, and Allison Burks, Storm, Ryan and Chelsie Burks, Cole and Tee Dickinson, Ramsay Dickinson, Olivia, Allyson, and Elizabeth Dickinson and Kabell Austin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Koontz officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests donations be made to the St. John's United Methodist Church Youth Program. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
