John Herbert Lyle, 84, of Buena Vista, died Friday, May 30, 2008.

He was born July 28, 1923 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John lacy and Fannie Gilmore Lyle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Craney Lyle and two brothers.

He was a member of the American Legion and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are two daughters: Rebeca Langhorne, Buena Vista and Agnes Lyle, Waynesboro; one son, John H. Lyle, Jr. and wife, Margaret, Staunton; two brothers: Joseph Lyle, Surry and James Hunter, North Pole, Alaska; two sisters: Anna Troxler, Lexington and Frances Turner, Berryville; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, Buena Vista. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
