Navy Veteran Owned Smitty's Auto Repair For Many Years

James Kenneth (Kenny) Smith, 70, of Lexington, died June 28, 2008 at his home.

He was born August 21, 1937 in Lexington, the son of the late William Ramsey and Bessie Louise Smith Ramsey.

He was a well-known and respected automotive technician in the community. He owned/operated Smitty's Auto Repairs for many years.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a past member of the VFW.

He was a past member, Governor and State President of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was also a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness (South) Congregation.

He is survived by his wife, Janice LuRay Smith of Lexington; and three daughters: Karen Shelly Smith and fiance, David Hinty, of Lexington; Susan Smith Hall and husband, Billy, of Lexington; and Stella LaVerne Smith-Salmon and husband, Jim, of Florida; grandchildren: Jamie Hall Brown and husband Jamie of Lexington; Jessica Hall of Lexington; and James Kimo Smith-Salmon of Florida; great grandchildren: William James Brown and Grayden Conner Brown of Lexington.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Porter "Sonny" Smith officiating. Burial followed at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.

The Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia, handled the arrangements.
