Obituary for Terrell Clifton Spangler Terrell Clifton Spangler
World War II Veteran Was Longtime Glasgow Fire Department Member

Terrell Clifton Spangler, 95, of Glasgow, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at his home.

He was bornr October 1, 1912, in Meadow Fork, Fayette County, West Virginia, a son of the late Manassas Pendleton Spangler and Mary Susan Welch Spangler.

In addition to hsi parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Martin Spangler.

Mr. Spangler was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and was retired from Burlington Industries. After retirement, he worked 19 years for the Natural Bridge Inn and Conference Center.

He was a life member of the Glasgow Fire Department, where he served over 60 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served on LST 573 and saw action in the South Pacific and was involved in numerous battles and invasions.

Surviving are a son, Larry Vernon Spangler and wife, Sharon, of Glasgow; two brothers: James Spanger of Glasgow and Oley Spangler of Buena Vista; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Glasgow Baptist Church with the Rev. William M. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA. 24450 or the Glasgow Baptist Church, 805 10th St., Glasgow, VA. 24555.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
