Lawrence Dillard "Bill" Ayers, 68, of Natural Bridge Station, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 9, 1939 in Bedford, a son of the late Thurman Edward Ayers and Gertrude Hodges Ayers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ayers Coleman and a son, Mark Ray Ayers.

Surviving are his wife, Caroline S. Ayers; a son, Anthony Ayers and wife, Melissa of Buena Vista; a daughter, Regina K. Ayers, of Natural Bridge Station; a sister, Peggy Wilmer and husband, Wilson, of Dayton, VA; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship with Rev. Nathan Phillips and Rev. David Bain officiating. Burial will follow in Glasgow Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
