Obituary for John Bernard Gary John Bernard Gary
Chicago Native Was World War II Veteran

John Bernard Gary, 83, of Natural Bridge (formerly of Chicago), passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008 at his home.

He was born May 12, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Gary.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by June Gary and daughter, Susan.

John Gary attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. More than anything, John loved his wife and family.

In addition, he loved his community, Irish Heritage, the Catholic Church and sports, especially the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed greatly. "We love you!" Surviving are his wife of forty-eight year, Marilyn F. Gary; six children: Jerry Westhouse, David Westhouse, Kathy Obermaier, Robert Westhouse, Cindy Callaway, and Lori Caveness; seventeen grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2008 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Father Joe D'Aurora officiating. Burial will be in High Bridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Natural Bridge.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
