Longtime B.V.F.D. Member Dies At Age 42 After Battle With ALS

David Allan Burnett, 42, of Buena Vista, died Friday, September 12, 2008.

He was born on Febrary 9, 1966.

David was the son of Sammy Dameron Burnett and the late Gordon "Tally" Burnett.

David is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Marjorie Armentrout.

He graduated from Parry McCluer High School in 1984.

He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a member of the Franklin Sunday School Class, and was a member of the St. John's Property Committee and was retired from Dana Corporation.

David was a devoted and outstanding Lifetime Member of the Buena Vista Fire Department for 28 years, where he served as a Lieutenant, Captain, and a Safety officer and received numerous awards.

He is survived by his wife, Ashley; and his children, McKayla and Kennon; his mother, Sammy Burnett; a brother, Robbie, and wife, Linda; his nephews, Jason and Kevin; a father-in-law, Richard Armentrout; and his faithful canine companion, Shy.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. in St. John's United Methodist Church with Pastor John Choi and B.V.F.D. Chaplin Butch Grow officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the Buena Vista Fire Department, St. John's United Methodist Church, or the ALS Association.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
