Amherst County Native Dies At Age 85

Dorothy Coleman Painter, 85, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Kendal.

She as born May 29, 1923 in Amherst County, the first of six children.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Allie Pearl Taylor Coleman and Herman Edward Coleman; her first husband, John Henry Potter; a sister, Rosie Ann Ramsey; two brothers, Gene Arthur Coleman and James Harvey Coleman; and a great-grandson, Albert Jeffery Linville, Jr.

Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Willard White "Bill" Painter, a retired logger; a brother, Edward Mack Coleman and wife, Nancy, of Buchanan; a sister, Ruby Jane Lawson, of Martinsville; five children, Ernest Eugene Potter, Nancy Irene Coffey, of Buena Vista, Robert Lee Potter and wife, Sandy, of Laurel, MD, Cathy Joan Fix and husband, Jerry, of Waynesboro, and Rebecca Virginia "Becky" Sorrells and husband, Edwin "Butch", of Buena Vista; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 4 great, great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with High Priest Garvis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, VA.
