Thomas Hartwell Glass III, 74, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 30, 1934 in Lexington, a son of the late Thomas Hartwell Glass, Jr. and Elziabeth Knight Glass.

He graduated from Bridgewater College in 1957 with a bachelor's degree.

Mr. Glass was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and as a lay reader.

He was a member of the Buena Vista Lions Club for 46 years, 30 years as secretary; a member of the American Legion for 35 years (including 40 and 8 part of American Legion); a member of the local food bank; and a long-time employee of B. P. Knight & Co. and Wal-Mart.

He served in Germany while in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Hamilton Glass; children and their spouses: Rock and Mary White, Glen Allen, VA; Owen and Beverly White, New Bern, NC; Aleida E. White, Christiansburg, VA; W. Walt and Kathi White, Sandy, UT; and Joseph Glass, Woodmere, OH; nine grandchildren; one brother, Benjamin K. Glass, Moneta, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jackson Hershbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal church, 2246 Walnut Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416 or the Buena Vista First Aid, P. O. Box 668, Buena Vista, VA 24416. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
