Obituary for Oley Hammit Spangler Oley Hammit Spangler
Operated Oley's IGA In Glasgow For Over 26 Years

Oley Hammit Spangler, 89, of Buena Vista, died Friday, October 17, 2008 in the Golden Living Center.

He was born September 10, 1919 in Botetourt County, a son of the late Manassa Pendleton Spangler and Mary Susan Welch Spangler.

Mr. Spangler was preceded in death by his wife, Hester Fox Spangler, four brothers and two sisters.

He owned and operated Oley's IGA in Glasgow over 26 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #126 over 59 years.

Mr. Spangler was a charter member of the Ben Salem Ruritan Club, was a member of the First Brethren Church and the AARP.

Surviving are two sons: Charles Wayne Spangler and wife, Linda and Thomas Oley Spangler, all of Buena Vista; one brother, James O. Spangler; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the First Brethren Church with Pastor Christian Becker and Rev. W. A. Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
