Obituary for Charles Herman Gibson, Sr. Charles Herman Gibson, Sr.
Was Retired Storekeeper For CSX Transportation

Charles Herman Gibson, Sr., age 77, of 15 Botany Drive, Eagle Rock, Virginia, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at his residence.

He was born December 12, 1930 in Alleghany County, Virginia, a son of the late Willie Lewis Gibson, Sr. and Naomi Howard Gibson.

He served in the United States Army in the 1st Cavalry - 70th Tank Battalion during the Korean War and also served in the National Guard.

He was a retired storekeeper for CSX Transportation and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Charlie had a great love of his family, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Leola Lamb Gibson in August of 2005; two sisters: Evelyn Childs and Eleanor Willard; a brother, Richard Arnold Gibson; two grandchildren, and one great grandson.

He is survived by a son, Charles H. Gibson, Jr. and wife, Geneva, of Bruce, WI; a daughter, Carrie Lou Mattox and husband Joel of Eagle Rock; a foster daughter, Victoria Sorrels of Clifton Forge; four sisters: Lois Ford of Charleston, WV; Margaret Dame of Selma; Catherine Vanness of Clifton Forge; and JoAnn Scobee of LaJunta, CO; three brothers: William Lewis Gibson, Jr. of Yelm, WA: Reginald Gibson of Clifton Forge; and Robert Bernard Gibson, Sr. of Clifton Forge; seven grandchildren: Cherie Cattlet, Jay Kent Mattox and wife Cordilla, Amy Angle, Terry Hoover and husband, Billy, Charles H. Gibson III, Robbie Gibson, and Willie Myers, who is currently serving in Iraq; twelve great grandchildren, including a special great grandson, Joel Herman Clarence Hall; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home,
