Saylor Gilbert Leighton, 75, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, December 16, 2008.

He was born September 23, 1933 in Buena Vista, a son of the late Terry and Laura Whiteside Leighton.

He was employed in the maintenance department of Sweet Briar College for thirty years, and was a long time member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Surviving are his wife, Diane Via Leighton; one son, James L. Leighton of Buena Vista; two daughters: Carla Henson and husband, Joseph and Amanda Nicely and husband, Brandon, of Buena Vista; two sisters: Frances Henson of Buena Vista and Anna Mae Snook of Manassas, VA; two brothers: Johnnie Leighton of Buena Vista and Bob Leighton and wife, Deana of Texas; two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Decemberr 18, 2008 at the Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Staton officiating. Burial will be private. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family at 2354 Hawthorne Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416.
