Former Daily Review, Bath Co. Sheriff's Office Employee Dies At Age 74

Harry William Sydenstricker, Jr., age 74, of 91 Nimrod Drive, Millboro, VA, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA.

He was born April 23, 1934 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, a son of the late Harry W. Sydenstricker, Sr. and Pauline DePriest Sydenstricker. He retired as a deputy from the Bath County SheriffÕs Office after eighteen years of service.

Previously, he had worked in the printing business, having worked for the Daily Review, a former Clifton Forge newspaper.

He was an avid NASCAR and wrestling fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, and one great grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Carpenter Sydenstricker of Millboro; two daughters: Cindy Simmons and husband, Ronnie of Millboro and Chip Bryant and husband Charlie of Millboro; a son, Charlie Bill Sydenstricker and wife, Erica of Edinburg; a sister, Betty Cleary of Maryland; a brother, Tom Sydenstricker of Richmond; seven grandchildren: Missy Guy, Joey Simmons and wife, Nikki, Shawn Sydenstricker, Mary Simmons and companion Troy Riley, Allen Ingram, Sha Ingram, and Lilee Bryant; two step grandchildren: Donald Angle and Amber Sine; seven great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Lennie Stinnett and Reverend Johnny Arbogast officiating. Following the funeral service, his body will be cremated. Interment of remains will be private. The family will receive friends at Nicely Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2008 from 12:30 p.m. until time of service and other times at the residence of Cindy and Ronnie Simmons, 133 Hickory Drive, Millboro, VA.
