Worked At Nuclear Plants All Over The Country

Nelson Murray Pendleton, 64, of 1700 East Main Street, Clifton Forge died Saturday, January 17, 2009 in Alleghany Regional Hospital.

He was born in Clifton Forge on March 6, 1944, a son of the late Luther Murray Pendleton and Nellie May Nelson Pendleton.

He was a retired Quality Assurance / Quality Control lead Auditor for Transportable Technology, Inc. He was trained as a Journeyman Machinist Boilermaker / welder.

Over the years, Nelson had worked for nuclear plants all over the country.

He was a member of the Alleghany Highlands Jaycees and the local Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He attended Oak Hill Bible Church and loved his church family.

He also loved fishing, golf, music and spending time with his wife, children and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Brooks Pendleton of Clifton Forge; 3 daughters: Deborah May Pendleton of Covington, Scarlet June Nicely and husband, Todd of Selma, and Leslie Brooks Warlitner and husband Greg of Covington; 5 sons: Stephen Dean Pendleton and fiancee, Beverly Mayo of Eagle Rock; Eric Murray Pendleton and wife, Sandra of Waynesboro; Chief Petty Officer Vincent Ian Pendleton of Chula Vista, California; Samuel Nelson Pendleton of Clifton Forge; and Sgt. Louis Davis Pendleton of Covington; a sister and brother-in-law, Bettywallace and Frank Kincaid of Clifton Forge; 4 grandchildren: John Warner, Jonathan Pendleton, Michael Pendleton and Jonah Dwiggins; special cousin, Bud Nelson and wife, Carol of Middleburg, FL; aunt, Georgia Nelson of Hampton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill and Frances Burhenn of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Lucille Markham of Covington, Bill and Mary Barber of Covington, J.E. and Shirley Keith of Hampton and Jimmy and Velma Craft of Covington; 19 nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Bush and Rev. Virgil Woodie officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, and friends may call any time at the residence of Todd and Scarlet Nicely, 1408 Donovan Street, Selma. The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Oak Hill Bible Church, Building Fund, Chestnut Street, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422. His body will be cremated following the visitation and funeral service.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
