Obituary for Margaret (Peggy) Moore Graybeal Margaret (Peggy) Moore Graybeal
Church Historian Was Former VMI Admissions Staffer

Margaret (Peggy) Moore Graybeal, 79, of 2377 Walnut Aye., Buena Vista, passed away on January 26, 2009 at Golden Living Health Center in Buena Vista.

She was the daughter of the late Lucy and Ross Moore and was a life-long resident of Buena Vista.

Predeceased by her husband, William E. Graybeal, she is survived by her cousin, Christopher Hardy and family of Ypsilanti, MI; brother-in-law, James T. Graybeal and wife, Tris of Virginia Beach, VA; and numerous cousins.

Peggy was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School, Buena Vista, and Madison College (JMU), Harrisonburg, VA.

In 1950 she joined the staff of Virginia Military Institute and served in the Office of Admissions until her retirement in 1978.

She was an active member of St John's United Methodist Church and in her capacity as Church Historian, wrote an extensive history of the church. She was a member of the Page Bible Class, United Methodist Women, Afternoon Circle, and Church Board.

In addition, she was a past President of the Lexington Business and Professional Women's Club and assisted with the Buena Vista Centennial in 1992.

Peggy will best be remembered for her bubbly personality, keen intellect and the ability to make friends easily. She will be missed by many.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at St. John's United Methodist Church, Buena Vista. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 351 E. 21st St., Buena Vista, VA 24416. The family would like to thank Berdie Evans and Marian Lineberry for their friendship and loving caregiving to Peggy during the last few years of her life.
