Selma Native Was Clifton Forge Baptist Church Member

Virginia Atley "Gypsy" Simpson Cunningham, age 95, of The Golden Living Center, Clifton Forge, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at The Golden Living Center.

Born September 29, 1913 in Selma, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Emmett and Della Inge Simpson.

She lived in the Washington, DC area from 1934 until the mid 1970s, and was a homemaker throughout her life.

She attended Clifton Forge Baptist Church and had resided at The Golden Living Center since 2002.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ralph Cunningham in 1983; sisters, Mildred Carter and Elizabeth Deeds, and brothers, Mason and Landon Simpson.

She is survived by her children: Julia Ferguson (Ed) of Englewood, FL, Emmett Cunningham (Elaine) of Phoenix, AZ, and Mary Foraker (Larry) of Englewood, FL; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Oakland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Low Moor, with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum officiating. There will be no formal visitation. The family respectfully requests no floral tributes. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, 511 McCormick Blvd, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling the arrangements.
